I wrote this song around the same time I wrote The Things We Do. It actually started as one idea that somehow turned into two completely different songs. The Things We Do was about all those funny, strange little habits we have. The things we do without even realizing it. Nobody's Watching went in a slightly different direction. It's about who we are when we're completely alone. When nobody's watching. We talk to ourselves, dance around the house, have conversations with our animals, and do all kinds of things we'd probably never do in front of other people. I was thinking about that one day and thought it might make an interesting song. I LOVE this song so much. I spent quite a bit of time working on the production, trying to get everything exactly how I wanted it. I've always loved percussion and the way a great rhythm can drive a song. That was especially important to me with this one. And the guitar! I just love how it came together. There's something kind of wonderful about those little moments when we're alone and can just be ourselves. No audience, no expectations, no need to impress anybody. Just us, being us. For this one, the song came first. I spent quite a bit of time trying to find the right direction for the visuals. I wanted to do something a little different. I've always loved putting two things together that might not seem to belong together, but somehow they work. There's something about these surreal images paired with this song that I find really interesting. I can't exactly explain why they work together, but to me, they do. I think sometimes we try too hard to make everything make sense. I like leaving a little room for the unexpected. In the end, I just went with what felt right. That's pretty much how I approach everything I create.
